How the trainer works

  • Study a group — see the characters with their sounds, in an order designed for Hangul (not just alphabetical).
  • Quiz yourself — four choices per character; wrong answers come back until they stick.
  • Master everything — a character is mastered after two correct answers, and your progress stays in your browser between visits.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really learn hangul in a weekend?

Yes: hangul is a designed alphabet with 40 building blocks, and the consonant shapes mimic your mouth position. Most learners read slowly after a day and comfortably within a week.

How do jamo combine into syllables?

Each Korean syllable is a block of 2 or 3 jamo: consonant + vowel, optionally + final consonant. Once you know the jamo in this quiz, you can read any block by assembling the parts.

What does the circle jamo do?

At the start of a syllable it is silent, acting as a placeholder before a vowel. At the end of a syllable it sounds ng, as in ring.
