This Privacy Policy explains how The Anemone Lab ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use the Hyperpolyglot application. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable French and EU law.

Data We Collect

Account Data

Email address, display name, and profile photo obtained through Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, or email/password registration.

User-Generated Content

Text phrases you enter for translation, language preferences, voice and style settings, and study progress (spaced repetition data, review history).

Usage Statistics

Number of phrases generated, minutes listened, phrases reviewed and recalled — stored with your account to show you your own progress.

Device and Diagnostic Data

Device type, operating system version, and anonymized crash logs collected via Sentry to diagnose and fix technical issues. This data is not linked to your identity.

Subscription Data

Purchase history and subscription status, managed by RevenueCat, Apple App Store, and Google Play Store.

How We Use Your Data

• Provide the language learning service (store your cards, track progress)
• Generate AI translations (your text is sent to Google Gemini API)
• Generate text-to-speech audio (your text is sent to Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services Speech)
• Improve the app through anonymized crash and performance reporting
• Process and manage subscriptions

Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third-party services as necessary to provide the app:

• Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, storage
• Google Gemini API — AI translations
• Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services Speech — audio generation
• RevenueCat — subscription management
• Sentry — anonymized crash and performance reporting
• Apple App Store / Google Play — payment processing

Microphone Usage

The app uses your device's microphone during the Active Recall mode to let you practice pronunciation. Audio recorded during Recall is processed locally on your device and is never uploaded to our servers or any third party.

Data Retention

• Account data: retained until you delete your account
• Cards and study data: retained until you delete your account
• Diagnostic data: retained up to 90 days, then anonymized or deleted

Your Rights (GDPR)

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights:

• Right to access — request a copy of your personal data
• Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
• Right to erasure — delete your account and associated data
• Right to data portability — request your data in a portable format
• Right to object — object to the processing of your personal data

Children's Privacy

Hyperpolyglot is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us at theanemonelab@gmail.com and we will promptly delete the data.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Users will be notified of material changes through the app. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
